Back in July I mentioned in my comment that Fred Kaplan had written a book entitled 1959. Ottermom asked me for my opinion of it.

I have finally read most of "The Year Everything Changed 1959." You wondered whether it would be appropriate for your book club.
It would not be a good choice for my book club here as it is long and non-fiction. However, I think it could generate lots of interesting discussion for some book clubs.
I personally was not convinced that 1959 was THE year--even Kaplan makes a good case for 1960 too. That premise and the many events he writes about could generate a lively meeting!
